This course introduces the student to the roles and disciplines of the Canadian Laboratory departments. Students are introduced to Medical terminology and common abbreviations related specifically blood sample collection. The importance of patient documentation and data transcription are taught in theory and practice. The principles of safe biologic specimen collection, patient preparation, containers, blood tubes and proper labeling requirements are demonstrated. Students are instructed in the fundamentals of patient care, scope of responsibility, confidentiality and communication.
